If you’re a true fan of golf, then you realize that no two greens are created exactly equal. While there might be no such thing as a “bad game of golf”, there are definitely those courses out there which stand head and shoulders above all the rest, those courses that seem poised to provide you with a golfing experience the likes of which you’ll never forget. Without further ado, then, here’s our pick for the top ten golf courses in the country, in no particular order.

Bethpage State Park Golf Course (Black Course)

Any course that’s been around since 1936, you can pretty much count on for quality. This course at the Bethpage State Park is one of the nicest you’ll find in New York (where space is often a commodity). It features a sprawling 7000+ yards of play for a total par of 71, so beginners will find it a suitable challenge but enjoyable nevertheless.

Pine Valley Golf Club

The Pine Valley Golf Club is often thought of as the pinnacle of golfing in New Jersey. It was designed by infamous golf enthusiast George Crump, and stands as one of the older courses in the country, dating back to 1918.


Kearney Hill Links

A relatively new offering, Kearney Hill Links lets you explore the green side of the bluegrass state, Kentucky. Designed by Pete Dye, this 18 hole course has over 7000 yards from the starting tee, for a total par rating of 72. It’s an enjoyable course for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

Augusta National Golf Club

Enjoy the natural beauty of Georgia while you stroll around this beautifully maintained 18 hole course in the heart of Augusta. With a total par of 72, you’re in for a full day at one of the best designed courses in the country.

Koolau Golf Club

Koolau Golf Club is one of Hawaii’s most prestigious courses, and boasts 6700 yards of play (far larger than most other courses in the state), and a par of 72. A slope rating of 158 makes playing on this Bahia grass something special.

World Woods Golf Club (Pine Barrens Course)

Bermuda grass is the order of the day at this course in beautiful Brooksville, Fl. Long considered the best type of turf to play on by the game’s legends, the slope of 134 with a 71 par make this just like playing in the Masters.

Riviera Country Club

One of the highest rated golf courses in the entire country, this course in Pacific Palisades, California features a low slope of 139 and an immensely playable par of 71, all on imported Kikuyu grass you have to feel to believe.

Tobacco Road Golf Course

Another high quality Bermuda grass course, the “Tobacco Road” is infamous in local legend in Sanford, North Carolina. It features 6500 yards of play area with a par rating of 71 that makes it challenging, but welcoming at the same time.

Calusa Pines Golf Club

Another of Florida’s golfing treasures, this course in Naples features a higher par than usual at 72, with an extended area of play totaling 7,215 yards from the longest tees. A true treat for golfers of all experience levels.

Baywood Greens (Woodside Course)

The only 9 hold course on our top ten, the Woodside Course at Delaware’s Baywood Greens make for a memorable experience that blends together all the trademarks of Delaware golf from the framing trees to the repeating traps. Something of an advanced course, but one that anyone can enjoy.
