Tips For A Proper Swing
You have the golf clubs, golf bag, golf balls, and are now ready to play. You may have all the equipment right down to those fancy golf club covers, but a game is nothing if you are not employing proper techniques. Achieving that proper swing is one of the hardest techniques for beginners and even for avid players. It takes a certain amount of finesse to strike the ball in such a way to get good distance in the direction that you want. The way you swing that club is one of the primary factors that affect this. There are several steps in achieving that proper swing, and to be honest, there are plenty of professionals that have yet reach such a point so do not get discouraged.
The fundamentals of the proper swing is something you may already know, but do not employ correctly. The way you grip the club is often overlooked as most figure that as long as the club does not fly away, then what is the damage? However, there is a right way and a very wrong way to grip the golf club. Holding it correctly is the step in the right direction to achieving the proper swing.
Golf requires the entire body and your posture figures prominently in the game as the posture provides the foundation of your game. The basics of good posture are a sturdy stance, flexible knees, bending at the hips, and keeping that back straight. A pulled back is an indicator of poor posture and a poor swing. Also remember to allow your arms to hang below the shoulders. A good posture will be reflected directly in the game.
Practice gripping the club and proper posture as much as possible until your body is accustomed to the positions. When your body is in the habit of assuming a standard position you will know right away when something is off and be able to remedy the problem.
Beyond the fundamentals of grip and posture is the pivot. The pivot incorporates your entire body and requires the grip and posture to be executed properly. Pivoting requires your entire body and should be practiced as much as possible.
Now you can approach the ball. You will have to shut everything out and focus only on your goal; the green. You will not need to be facing the goal as doing so will hook the ball. Find an intermediate target along the path of the main goal. Place your body parallel to the line of the intermediate target; the side of your feet should be in line with both target and goal. Remain positive at this point by visualizing the goal and keeping confident that you can reach it. Keep your eyes on the ball and go for it.
Afterwards, just remember to practice as that will be the key in achieving the proper swing. It may be helpful to study the professionals and anyone else with a good swing. Good luck and good game.
