People all around the world are discovering how enjoyable, yet tough a game of golf can be. In fact, if you attempt to play the game in your favourite athletic shoes, you will discover that most of the golf courses will not let you play unless you are properly shod.

Why are the golf courses so fussy about what you are wearing on your feet? They want to protect the grass on the course from damage by shoes that are not appropriate. It can take several hours and a lot of walking to complete 18 holes of golf, so you want a pair of golf shoes that are comfortable to wear. Who wants to discover a set of blisters on your heels at the ninth hole?  You want golf shoes that have extra cushioning at the heel as well as the sole. It is also a good idea to purchase golf shoes that are waterproof, for reasons noted above.

There are several different styles of golf shoes, and one style may appeal to you more than others. There is no one correct golf shoe, so choose the one that you like best, paying careful attention to fit. There are the oxfords, which come in both leather and suede varieties as well as a blend of synthetic materials. Saddle oxfords have two different colours, while the Ghillies oxfords do not have a tongue and fasten with fringed laces. Kilties are oxfords do have a tongue. Spectator oxfords are lightweight and either black and white, or brown and white. These are crafted from canvas and leather, and are best suited for summer golfing.

New styles of golf shoes include sandals, which look like ordinary sandals except for their spikes. Golf boots are available, but not seen as often as the other styles. They are typically more expensive, yet make a wonderful golf shoe for the winter.
