Preparing Yourself Mentally Before a Game

Richard Smith - Monday, September 28, 2009

It may come as some surprise to a novice golfer when they learn that golf is not only a physical game, but a mental game as well. It takes the correct mental attitude as well as the proper amount of practice in order to succeed at the game. That golf ball is not going anywhere without some physical and mental effort on your part. It is well known that practice is very important when it comes to a good golf score, but the mental aspects are just as important, if not more so.

Think about the last time you played a game of golf. You were moving around the course, and your game was coming along nicely. You step up and address the ball, and hit a shot that makes the ball go into a wild backspin. Angry with yourself for making such a horrible shot in front of your gold friends, you continue your game, but are having trouble getting your bad shot out of your mind. You keep trying to analyze it so that you can figure out where you went wrong. You end up with a rotten score, and are even more angry than you were when you first hit the backspin shot. Read More

Richard Smith - Tuesday, June 23, 2009

If there’s one sport where etiquette is of the utmost importance, it’s got to be golf. Whenever you take a golf club into your hands, you’re joining in a centuries old tradition that demands the utmost respect and discipline. While the game is and always has been a great deal of fun, it does carry with it a certain degree of responsibility. Moreover, most serious golfers take this responsibility very seriously, and for that reason, breaches of etiquette aren’t just rude or dangerous, but they can result in your being thrown out of a golf course if you aren’t careful. However, it’s really not so complex. Just keep the following points in mind when you head out on the green, and you should be fine. Read More

Richard Smith - Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Rare is the golfer who doesn’t want to improve his or her golf swing. There are lots of reasons why this might be. Perhaps it’s because golf is one of those games where it’s impossible to acquire a “perfect score” (short of getting a hole in one on every hole on a course!), meaning that the people who play it are continually compelled to drop their score lower and lower. Golf is an addictive game, to be sure.
